The Townsend family has been a part of the Kansas City community for more than
120 years. The Townsend family established a business in 1923 that is still
thriving today under the helm of a fourth generation. The entire family still
resides in the area as do all the primary investors in the companys Kansas City
real estate developments resulting in an immense pride and emphatic pursuit
of quality development and progress in Kansas City.
JASON TOWNSEND
President
Jason Townsend was the first major condominium developer in Kansas City
since the early 1990s. Prior to establishing Townsend Inc., Mr. Townsend
began his real estate business in 1999 to acquire and re develop retail,
office, multi-family, commercial and industrial projects. He is currently
the managing member and general partner of multiple real estate investment
companies. His investment and development of apartment housing and condominium
units exceeds $100 million. Mr. Townsend was educated at Rockhurst High
School and the University of Kansas. He studied in Europe and in the
Philippines and graduated with multiple degrees. His career includes
experience in construction management, asset management, business development
technology development and sales before founding Townsend Inc.
KRIS TOWNSEND
Vice President & Sales and Marketing
Kris Townsend brings a wide variety of experiences to her role in the company.
As a marketing executive with the Kansas City Chiefs, Ms. Townsend worked directly
with Lamar Hunt to co-develop The Pavilion, a pre-game outdoor plaza area for
sponsors at Arrowhead Stadium. She was instrumental in increasing sponsorships
and partnerships through a series of corporate focused initiatives. She also
helped build strong relationships with Fortune 500-level sponsors and grew corporate
re venues each year with the club. Prior to working for the Chiefs, Ms. Townsend
was a municipal marketing executive for Budget Rent-a-Car. She also served and
as a sales and marketing manager for the Armani A/X retail outlet and was instrumental
in the successful opening of the Armani A/X location on the Country Club Plaza.
Her vast retail sales experience has been critical in building the Townsend
Community brand. A strong focus on customer service and high levels of sophistication,
elegance and fun are hallmarks of Townsend Inc. under Ms. Townsends marketing
leadership.
SCOTT A. BRANDT
Project Developer, Engineer
Prior to working at Townsend, Scott Brandt served as the Senior Project Management
for construction on any retail and commercial office buildings in Kansas City
and St. Louis. He has been in upper management with two Design / Build firms,
helping design commercial office buildings, specialty hospitals, commercial
office parks and residential developments. His goal is to provide an experience
of home purchasing that is exciting, fun, and stress free. His career has been
built on developing communities with the homeowners needs in mind. Mr. Brandt
says, “We want to provide lifestyle options at prices that allow our clients
to upgrade their standard of living without upgrading their cost of living”.
BURT PETERSON
Business Operations Manager
Burt Peterson brings 11 years of financial savvy to his role as a business management
executive with Townsend, Inc. He directs a wide variety of functions for the
company, including financial management, accounting, human resources, insurance
and tax management along with construction administration. Prior to Townsend,
he served nine years as vice president for Advanced Protective Coating, an industrial
coating and painting services company. Mr. Petersons philosophy is to use an
honest approach to business management, so Townsend maintains its strong relationships
with investors, construction firms and vendors.
SHAWN DANIELS
Technology Director
Shawn Daniels brings five years of experience in corporate technology management
to his position with Townsend, Inc. Mr. Daniels worked at Sprint on a variety
of technologies and programming languages. He designed software solutions that
use multi-tier web servers and databases to better serve customers. He was also
part of a team that coded a successful messaging system for outside vendors.
At Townsend, Mr. Daniels analyzes and approves technologies to meet the staffs
challenges. He is instrumental in designing and developing web-based marketing
for Townsend, Inc. and Townsend Communities. He says “These sites break
away from the traditional static web sites and bring a sense of life to the
property being marketed”.
MATT SHEPHERD
Marketing and Advertising Manager
An 18-year marketing and advertising veteran, Matt Shepherd has built a successful
career on helping companies build awareness and create interest in their products
or services. Mr. Shepherd is helping to lead the branding, advertising and marketing
efforts for Townsend, Inc. and Townsend Communities. He has created award-winning
branding campaigns for such organizations as Kansas City Power & Light,
American Century Mutual Funds, the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation
and Alfa Laval Agri, among others. On his marketing philosophy, Mr. Shepherd
says: “Keep the message simple, targeted and intriguing. And never underestimate
the intelligence or taste level of your audience”
JARED KENNEDY
Office Management
Jared Kennedy is a man of many hats at Townsend, Inc. He serves as the company's accountant, office manager and the building manager for the Wall Street Tower property. In his multiple roles with the company, Kennedy is responsible for everything from accounts receivable to organizing business paperwork to overseeing building maintenance.
Kennedy enhanced an honor-filled college career at Emporia State University with an internship at Townsend, Inc. He was an academic honor student and all-conference track athlete, earning a degree in business administration. His approach to Townsend clients is to make "my client's goals my goals." He tries to reach his clients on a personal level, and create a working relationship that is more of a partnership.
DANIEL j. ROONEY
Developer
In a career that has ranged from flying F-16s over Iraq to staring down Tiger Woods in NCAA golf competition, Dan Rooney brings a varied set of skills and accomplishments to his position with Townsend, Inc. Rooney's development background includes extensive management and ownership experience with golf clubs in Oklahoma, Michigan and Virginia.
Rooney completed two tours of duty over Iraq, winning the "Spirit of the Attack" award as top wingman in F-16 training. Other honors include the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Anti-Terrorism Medal, the Air Medal [for combat sorties over Iraq] and the Combat Readiness Medal. Prior to completing Euro NATO Joint Pilot Training, Rooney was a professional golfer for three years, winning two tournaments in 1996. As team captain at the University of Kansas, Rooney defeated Tiger Woods three times in stroke play NCAA competition. His storied career was recently the subject of a Sports Illustrated feature story, and he will be profiled in Golf Digest in September 2005.
DAN SAILLER
Developer
An energetic developer, Daniel Sailler works on projects for Townsend, Inc., in a variety of aspects, such as site/building selection, design, construction, closing and leasing. He is also involved with financial projections, financing, and the negotiation of public finance packages. Prior to joining Townsend, Inc., Dan and Jake Mooney managed over $200 million in development projects which included Low Income Housing Tax Credits, Historic Tax Credits, and numerous public incentives.
During the past decade, Dan has built his construction and development experience throughout Kansas and Missouri. A graduate of the University of Kansas, he first got his feet wet with the Fastenal Company in Kansas City—an international company that supplies construction materials to general and subcontractors, where he worked as the general manager over 25 employees and business operations. Since then, Dan has filled several management positions with Walton Construction, APAC Reno, Damon Pursell, and Garrison Development. Dan brings this extensive management experience to the Townsend team as is evident in his day-to-day activities.
JAKE MOONEY
Developer
Jake Mooney joined the Townsend team to help with every aspect of development. From site/building selection, financial projections, financing, and negotiating public finance packages to design, construction, closing, and leasing, this developer excels in taking projects from concept to completion. Prior to joining Townsend, Inc., Jake and Daniel Sailler managed over $200 million in development projects which included Low Income Housing Tax Credits, Historic Tax Credits, and numerous public incentives.
With over 10 years’ experience owning and managing his own businesses, this Kansas State graduate has also worked for Merrill Lynch’s Global Private Client Group and Garrison Development. Throughout his career, he has focused on investment and commercial banking and acted as a conduit for clients all across the country. This provided Jake the opportunity to work on private equity raises, IPOs, commercial lines of credit, business banking, commercial real estate financing, and merger and acquisition transactions. It is this background that makes him such a strong asset on the Townsend team.

The Reserve is a Townsend Community that will be established in one of Kansas City's most historic buildings, the Federal Reserve Bank. Once an anchor to the city's financial district, The Reserve is now a pillar in the booming upscale condominium market Downtown, just two blocks from the Sprint Arena and Kansas City Live entertainment district.
This handsome 21-story tower will feature 155+ luxury condominiums and include amenities unavailable anywhere else in the city. These include a "warm" modern interior design, a movie theater, private gourmet coffee lounge, 2+ car covered parking per home, party room with outdoor patio, fitness center, shooting range, and rooftop swimming pool and deck. Two-story penthouse homes will offer some of the greatest views and luxury available downtown. This spectacular new development will be available to the public in Fall, 2006.
$10.5 MILLION PROJECT VALUE.
The Hemingway was built in the 1920s and was primarily a residential structure.
From 1984-1999, the building served as apartment housing. In 2000, Townsend
and partners bought the building, refurbished the common areas and sold individual
units to homeowners. The buildings 2004 unit values range from the mid-$100s
to the $700s. In this project, Townsend experienced immediate success as a condominium
developer by selling more than 60 units in five months.
$2.5 MILLION PROJECT VALUE.
919 W. 47th was built in the 1950s and expanded in the 1960s. The buildings
primary use
had been as office space until 2000, when Townsend and partners converted
the building into what became an award-winning retail space. The building will
be the new home of an exciting destination bar and restaurant that will open
in this location soon.
$6.2 MILLION PROJECT VALUE.
Belleview Plaza was built in 1979 as an office building. In 2001, Townsend and
partners purchased the building for investment purposes. In 2003, the building
was gutted, de-shelled, expanded and re-built. Today it is designed to be an
exclusive, high-quality gated condominium complex that includes multiple balconies,
panoramic views, high ceilings, two-car private garages, multiple fireplaces,
gourmet kitchens and more. Three model units under construction will be completed
in early 2005.
$45 MILLION PROJECT VALUE
Wall Street Tower was built in 1974 and considered a modern construction marvel
at the time. The building was used as an office complex, with primarily banking
institutions as the major tenant. Nationally famous developer Leo Eisenberg
bought the structure in the 1980s. In 2003, Townsend and partners acquired the
building and are developing what will become a Kansas City show place. The building
will feature 144 luxury condos on floors 5-20 and office/retail from the plaza
level through the fourth floor. This Townsend Community brings a new level of
sophistication, elegance and pride of home ownership to Downtown Kansas City.
A Sales and Marketing Center on the first floor has been open since October.
It has set area sales records in its first 45 days since opening, with more
than 60 percent of units having been reserved.
Maple Gardens was built in 1979 as a senior housing facility. In 2003, Townsend
and partners purchased the facility for investment and redevelopment. Currently,
Maple Gardens is one of the best-performing senior housing facilities in the
city.
